Edgewood Plaza
After a neighbors’ lawsuit settled in 2009, the City Council approved a 2012 plan to restore the plaza’s retail buildings and office and add 10 houses and a small park. One retail building was then demolished without approval; the city fined the developer $94,200 and the building was rebuilt. Eichler’s former office, completed in 1959 at 1101 Embarcadero Road, stands nearby.
Remodeling rules
Edgewood has an active Architectural Control Committee, one of three in Palo Alto Eichler tracts. Palo Alto adopted voluntary Eichler Design Guidelines in 2018 covering rooflines, siding and glass; a single-story overlay applies only where neighbors have petitioned for one. See our Eichler design guidelines by city.
