Rancho San Miguel in Walnut Creek has about 375 Eichlers among 535 homes, built from 1955 to 1958 on the old Randall Farm. It was one of Eichler’s first tracts outside the Peninsula and Santa Clara Valley.

History
Eichler kept the farm’s oaks, walnuts and almonds. Early buyers were an unusually diverse mix for the 1950s, including Japanese, Chinese, Jewish, Mormon and African American families.

A survey found 75–80% of the Eichlers would contribute to a historic district, and residents have pursued National Register recognition. No Eichler-specific design rules apply.
