About Visitacion Valley
Visitacion Valley sits in the southeast corner of San Francisco along the San Mateo County line, between John McLaren Park and Bayshore Boulevard. The neighborhood falls within the San Francisco Unified School District, giving families access to a range of public and private schools.
Residents enjoy the Visitacion Valley Greenway, a chain of community gardens and small parks through the heart of the neighborhood, and the shops and cafes along Leland Avenue. The T Third Street Muni line, the nearby Bayshore Caltrain station and quick access to US-101 make it easy to commute downtown or down the Peninsula. Home prices here are among the more attainable in San Francisco, including the Eichler-built Geneva Terrace townhouses described below.
The Geneva Terrace Eichlers of Visitacion Valley
In the early 1960s, Joseph Eichler, in partnership with architect Claude Oakland, initiated a housing project in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. This venture resulted in the Geneva Terrace townhouses and Geneva Towers high-rise. The townhouses, a departure from Eichler's usual modernist style, are two-story, 4-bedroom residences with a simple, red-brick facade.
The Geneva Towers, an 18-story high-rise at Garrison Avenue and Schwerin Street, originally provided affordable rentals for working professionals before transitioning to subsidized housing. While the towers are no longer standing, the Geneva Terrace townhomes remain among the more affordable ownership options in San Francisco, reflecting Eichler's commitment to attainable housing in the city.
