El Centro Gardens is a 16-lot Anshen & Allen tract on La Jennifer Way, built in 1950. Its cul-de-sac is laid out as a bulging Latin cross, one of Eichler’s earliest experiments with street plans.

These were among Eichler’s first post-and-beam homes, mostly T-shaped three-bedroom plans. Architectural Forum cited El Centro Gardens, with Fairmeadow and Greer Park, in naming Eichler’s work “Subdivision of the Year.”
Remodeling rules
Palo Alto adopted voluntary Eichler Design Guidelines in 2018 covering rooflines, siding and glass; a single-story overlay applies only where neighbors have petitioned for one. See our Eichler design guidelines by city.
