About Monta Loma, Mountain View
Monta Loma is a north Mountain View neighborhood where more than 200 Eichlers, built from about 1954 to 1957, sit alongside Mackay homes. Eichler’s tract was originally called Fairview; the neighborhood also takes in Mackay’s Oakwood and the Mardell Manor tract.

History
Alvin Street roughly follows the landing strip of a former airport. Jones & Emmons first planned hidden greenbelts between the homes, but those were dropped when the density was raised. Steve Jobs spent part of his childhood in Monta Loma, in a Mackay home rather than an Eichler.
Remodeling rules
Unlike parts of Palo Alto, Monta Loma has not had Eichler-specific single-story zoning; second stories and teardowns have been allowed. Confirm current rules with the City of Mountain View for any specific address.
